The Faculty of Law (Common Law and Civil Law Sections) is committed to raising an endowment fund for graduate student scholarships which would commemorate the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. The genesis of the scholarship was a fundraising dinner held in conjunction with an international conference it hosted in March of 2008.
Mr. Danny Glover, Chairman of the board of TransAfrica Forum, has lent his name to the graduate fellowship which will be directed towards a doctoral student from continental, Africa, preferably from a country directly affected by the transatlantic slave trade. The successful candidate should be pursuing doctoral research in one of the following areas of specialization of the Faculty: international law, law & social justice, human rights or international humanitarian law.
